Biomass Fuel Production through Cultivation of Microalgae Coccomyxa dispar and Scenedesmus parvus in Palm Oil Mill Effluent and Simultaneous Phycoremediation

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is a potential alternative sources of biomass fuel upon phycoremediation treatment using microorganisms. In this study, Coccomyxa dispar and Scenedesmus parvus, as acidophilic microalgae, were used to investigate growth the production from cultivation POME, well effectiveness removing contaminants POME. Individual was conducted at 26 ± 3 °C for 14 days under three modes (mixotrophic, heterotrophic, autotrophic). To elucidate properties, characteristics treated POME compared, such optical density (OD), cell dry weight (CDW), calorific energy values (CEV), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical (BOD), carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen (CHN) elemental analysis, including grease content. S. parvus exhibits an outstanding profile all compared C. dispar, with measurements 228.8, 37.08, 118.2 mg/L observed day cultivation. The highest CEV 32.30 MJ/kg, which obtained in mixotrophic mode. Maximum removal efficiency COD BOD 81% 19% mode parvus. These results pinpoint that has be utilized high effective phycoremediation.
